If you have never heard of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons, or freakin' Jersey Boys, what in the world are you doing with your life?
I watched the show last Sunday night with my Aunt. She was lucky enough to win free tickets to which we were both ridiculously shocked about, but whatever. But the show, guys! The freakin' show! I still can't help but get so darn excited even thinking about it! That is how absolutely phenomenal Jersey Boys is.
Okay, sure, prior to my discovery of Jersey Boys, which was around six or seven years ago, I didn't really have that much of an idea who the four original singers were. I mean, I knew the songs, but not the actual people who sang them, you know? Thank God, for Oprah.
So yeah, I started listening to The Four Seasons since then. I', a huge fan of the oldies. Are they considered oldies, though? I mean, it was the sixties. Anyways, the musical coming to perform in Malaysia? I would not rest until I see the show! An I did!
Right, right. Umm, should I add some sort of spoiler tag here in case some people are planning to see it, but haven't? I'll just go with it.
*spoilers for the most super awesome musical ever*
So the show started off pretty okay. Tommy DeVito was the first sort of-presenter & kick started the thing. Oh, Tommy, thou art a douche. Then they had Franki Valli, & he is the most adorable & awkward little thing. Then there was Nick Massi, who I absolutely love! Hands down, one of my favourite characters in the show. La-dee-da dee-dah, they changed bands, brought people in, kicked people out, enter Bob Gaudio. Oh, my goodness, Bob Gaudio is the most precious creature ever. I just wanted to give him a huge hug & love him forever.
So yea, they formed The Four Seasons, & how they came up with the name & the whole conversation leading up to the formation of the name was both the huge a-ha moment & so quirky-funny. That's a thing, right? Quirky-funny? I'm just gonna roll with it.
But the moment you can feel a shift in the audiences', hell, practically the hall's vibe & energy, was when you hear the first few test notes for "Sherry". And when they finally sang "Sherry" on stage. . . God, that was the best. The crowd literally went wild when they finished that set. After that performance, I could not stop grinning! It was the best feeling ever!
Then they sang "Big Girls Don't Cry", "Walk Like A Man", "Beggin'", and when Frankie went solo & sang "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You". I died. Just. . . Oh my goodness.
At one part, when they sang "December 1963 (Oh, What A Night)", the actor who played Nick Massi looked & pointed in my direction! Well, at the wing's general direction where I was sitting, but I'd like to imagine he was pointing at my direction. Let a girl dream, damn it!
Gosh, I love it so much. I want to watch it again! It's just that super-mega-awesome-spectacular! I'm just really thankful I managed to actually watch it. It was simply perfect.
Just feel a little bummed I didn't get a chance to meet the cast. But hello, Frankie Valli does not need to stand on chair. He's pretty darn tall. Well, perfect Asian height, I guess. I mean, compared to the others. Ugh! Western people & their tallness. So tall.
All-in-all, it really was a lovely night. And for those of you who have yet to watch Jersey Boys, it's not too late! Go watch it! Trust me, you won't be disappointed.
