Not everything that glitters is gold. Though it could be just some kind of insect, it's too far away to make out. Nevertheless, like most glittery things that we stumble upon, we take the opportunity to take it apart & manipulate it to our own needs.
Welcome, to Sugar & Spice.
To say that I've only just recently heard of the utter magnificence that is Welcome to Night Vale would be a complete & utter lie. Thanks to the marvels of the internet *tumblr* I have heard of it in passing. But never have I really had the interest to pursue the fandom. Until now.
I have spent the past weekend dutifully listening to the melodious voice of the absolutely amazing Cecil Gershwin Palmer. And oh, what a voice he has. *sigh* Cecil. Just a little f.y.i. for those unfamiliar with this.
Welcome to Night Vale is a twice-monthly podcast *aired on the 1st & 15th of every month* in the style of community updates for the small desert town of Night Vale. The series began in 2012 & each episode is around 20-30 minutes long with heavy themes of surreal humour & horror. It is produced by Joseph Fink & Jeffrey Cranor, & narrated by Cecil Baldwin, who lends his name to the main protagonist of the show.
Now on to other news. I have finally differed to the January 2014 bath in my Uni, & so far so good, I guess. There were apparently seven of us who differed, though I happen to be the only girl, so that kind of sucks. I'll admit, I was pretty nervous. What with the fact that, aside from my fellow differees *that is not an actual word, princess* I know absolutely no one there! Whoop-de-doo!
But there happened to be a silver lining as in this batch, there appears to be a larger number of Malay students compared to my previous batch, so I didn't feel so horribly awkward. I even managed to befriend a group of them whom I happened to coincidentally sit with. So. . . Neat! This semester's schedule also doesn't seem as packed *cough**screwed up**cough* as the April 2013 schedule, so hurrah for small mercies.
I think I'll be able to do fine this semester. Hopefully. *crosses fingers*
Back to Night Vale, because it is perfection! A few extra tidbits concerning this wonderful radio station, because, why the hell not?
- You can listen to it riiight here >> *clickity click* *simply scroll to the bottom of the page for the first episode*
- Each podcast is 20-30 minutes long *as previously stated*
- New ones are posted on the 1st & 15th of the month *also stated*
- The broadcaster's name is Cecil.
- It's weird. Like, super weird.
- They have a weather section that basically just plays music. But they're really good music.
- There are various fanon interpretations of Cecil. There really isn't any canon description of him other than that he has a face with a nose and eyes and mouth, and he’s neither tall nor short, thin nor fat. Honestly you can just interpret him however way you deem fits your own interpretation of him. Or you could just Google him & check out how other people imagine him to be. This is how I basically picture him, & ain't he a looker.
- Carlos is perfect. No questions. He just is.
- Desert Bluffs is a rival town. They suck.
- Sit up when you’re listening to it. Cecil’s voice is smooth and sonorous, and it can put you to sleep.
And, I guess that's pretty much it. I have dove deep into this fandom, & loving every single moment of it. I mean, if you enjoy this unique blend of humour, horror, & weirdness, then I can guarantee you'll enjoy it as much as I have. Now to just patiently wait until the 15th for the next podcast. Until then, real life awaits!
xoxo
